Bio

Stefan Spiteri (b.1998) is a Maltese artist who works mainly with painting, drawing and collage. His creative process addresses space, memory and time, exploring these themes through a continuous layering of meaning, material and gesture. Spiteri graduated with a bachelor’s degree with Honours in Fine Art from MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts in 2019. In 2018, he participated in a three-week artist’s residency in Piedmont, Italy as one of the selected artists for the Amuse project. His debut solo show entitled ‘On The Nature Of Painting’ was held at Valletta Contemporary Malta in 2021. Previous collective shows include Points of Transition (Gabriel Caruana Foundation, Malta), 2021; Human Man-Made Traces (Malta Society of Arts, Malta), 2019; Distinct (Spazju Kreattiv, Malta) 2019; Shifting Contexts (Spazju Kreattiv, Malta), 2018. He currently lives and works in Malta.

Exhibitions & Residencies

2021(Malta)

Held first solo show entitled ‘On the Nature of Painting’ at Valletta Contemporary Art Gallery, Valletta, Malta.

2021 (Malta)

Exhibited in a collective exhibition entitled Points of Transition at the Gabriel Caruana Foundation as part of their Spring programme.

2019 (Malta)

Exhibited work in Organic, Man-Made, Traces Exhibition along with 15 other Maltese and European artists at The Malta Society of Arts in Valletta.

2019 (Malta)

Exhibited at the ICA Festival at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta as part of the BA in Fine Art end of year exhibition.

2018 (Malta)

Participated in a collective exhibition entitled Shifting Contexts at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta.

2018 (Italy)

Participated in a three- week residency in Muses, Savigliano, Piedmont after being selected for the Amuse Project led by The Malta Society of Arts.

2017 (Malta)

Participated in a two- week Residency Programme at the School of Art in Valletta which led to an event exhibiting the created work.

2016 (Australia)

Executed a collection of Commissioned Paintings for, Francis of Assisi Home in Mackay, Queensland over a period of three months.
